My gun-building journey began about fifty years ago. During high school in a little town known as Fulton, N.Y. I apprenticed under two perfection-demanding old-world master gun builders from then-closed L.C. Smith / Hunter Arms factory. I quickly learned that "good isn't good enough".
After serving Uncle Sam during the Vietnam era, I resumed gun-building, still driven by the words of those L.C. Smith master craftsmen: "good isn't good enough".
For many gun aficionados, good IS good enough, and there are plenty of good craftsmen to serve them.
L.C. Smith's enduring value is a testament to their old-world stock making, precision inletting, bedding, checkering or carving craftsmanship, the standards I uphold in every new build and restoration engagement.
By combining traditional techniques with modern innovation, I achieve that wood-metal fusion that blends functionality and artistic expression.
I work closely with clients to incorporate contemporary, traditional, and classic styling, and to ensure that the final result is not only a functional percussion, flintlock, black powder or center fire masterpiece, but also a deeply personal and treasured possession.
The quality of Craftsmanship is a function of the time invested. While I endeavor to return smaller projects within a couple of months, clients also understand that some projects will consume the better part of a year.
